The Miracle of Maccabi GB

The story of the Maccabees and the miracle of Chanukah is something we can all take inspiration from.  None more so than the Maccabi Movement and Maccabi Great Britain, which was founded over 80 years ago, to provide British Jews with safe spaces to practice sport and enhance their Jewish identity.

We are confident that there is not a single person within the Community who has not either participated in or been a parent, grandparent or relative of someone who has benefited from one of Maccabi GB’s 250 projects, programmes and events. 

You might just not have known it was us if you have:

  • Run, walked or cheered on a family member at the Maccabi GB Community Fun Run, where Maccabi GB has helped raise over £2million for our community’s charities

  • Attended a Maccabi GB International Games, such as a Maccabiah, European or JCC Maccabi Games and made friendships which have lasted a lifetime

  • Had a Maccabi GB coach deliver a quality PE lesson in school or compete in one of the thousands of Maccabi GB Inter-School Sports Tournaments held over the last 2 decades

  • Lit a Yellow Candle on the eve of Yom HaShoah to remember one of the 6 million Jews murdered in the Holocaust

  • Been one of the 260,000 young people to have taken part in one of our Streetwise sessions learning about anti-bullying, body image, keeping safe on the street or online safety

  • Been a participant of our Leadership by Streetwise Programme, (formally Maccabi GB Leadership) and gained a qualification, confidence and transferable skills for the workplace or sports field

  • Seen the immense value of our Stand Up! Education Against Discrimination school sessions, where Jewish and Muslim facilitators teach about combating Antisemitism and anti-Muslim hate

  • Known someone who attended our Challenge Tour to Israel, enabling young people in our Community with mild to moderate disabilities to create their own connection to Israel

 

Over the 8 nights of Chanukah, we are asking the Community to support us in continuing the Miracle of Maccabi GB
