Robotic surgery, a minimally invasive surgical procedure, integrates advanced computer technology with the experience of the skilled surgeon, providing them with a magnified, high-definition, 3D-image of the body’s intricate anatomy. The surgeon uses controls at a console to manipulate special surgical instruments, which replicate their hand movements, enabling them to operate with enhanced precision, dexterity and control, even during the most complex procedures. Robotic surgery has many benefits for the patient, including reduced post-operative pain, a faster recovery time, and a reduced stay in hospital with a quicker return to normal daily activities.

Robotic surgery, however, requires comprehensive and sustained training to ensure surgeons possess the required skills for patient safety, and The Griffin Institute provides these resources for our surgical community. We pride ourselves on our sought-after surgeon training programs for complex operating procedures which are at the forefront of global surgical training and skills development, benefiting patient safety and well-being.

During COVID-19, over 4 million operations were canceled, and thousands of training opportunities were lost. The Griffin Institute is proud that after restructuring our programs to comply with required safety measures, we remained open during the entire pandemic to deliver advanced surgical training throughout. This has allowed us to remain at the forefront of global robotic surgical training and skills development, enabling over 300 surgeons to be trained here in the UK since the pandemic, who otherwise would not have had any training, due to European travel restrictions.
