School Road Closures.

Whether you own a car or not, whether you live near a school or in a quiet side street, whether you’re a business owner or a modest housewife -  if you live in Stamford Hill or the surrounding areas you will be affected badly. Very badly.

But it doesn’t have to be.

School Road Closures are exactly what they imply – the closure of all roads which have a school on them. The road will be off limits to all traffic between the hours of 8:30-9:30am and 3:00pm-4:00pm daily.

Cameras will be installed on each road, and any car driving through during closure times will receive a fine.

The “official” purpose is to encourage children to walk to school, but clearly we realize that the real purpose is more than that...

Walking your children to school is possible when you have one girl and one boy who both attend the same setting and start school the same time. But what happens when you have 6-10 children who start school the same time but are based in 4 separate buildings?!

How can you be in 4 places at once?

The plan isn’t feasible or sensible or even desired, but our views will be disregarded if we don’t act soon.

If you think lock-down impacted us, think again. The worst might yet be to come.

Emergency vehicles will have great difficulty responding to calls, and minicabs have advised that they would have to charge between £8-£10 for a local job during the School Road Closure hours, simply because each journey will take double as long, if not more. Van prices will also need to increase by at least double, to pay the drivers for their extra time.

The impact will be huge – far greater than we can ever imagine.

We have a small window of opportunity to show Hackney council that we are a force to be reckoned with. That we have the numbers and the people and the money to fight this. That we will will NOT take this lying down.

If we don’t fight this now then we’ve already lost, and it’s a battle we can’t afford to lose.

The money from this campaign will be spent on legal and proffesional fees and everything needed to stop these closures.

We need to enlist the support of the whole community in order for this campaign to succeed.

All we are asking is for every family to pay just £65 – the price of one single ticket -  and this will allow us to fight this – and fight this until the very end.
