Bloomsbury Football Foundation is aiming to raise £200,000 to continue to support 5,000 children a week regardless of their ability to pay and improve the lives of more of London’s most disadvantaged children.
The disadvantaged communities which Bloomsbury exists to serve have never been in more urgent need of support. Our projects engage traditionally ‘hard-to-reach’ groups: 50% of children in our programmes are on free school meals, 55% identify as BAME, and 30% are girls. Importantly, young people from these communities have been suffering disproportionately from the adverse mental and physical effects of the Covid-19 pandemic at high rates. Our sessions work to reverse these damaging trends, and to ensure the lasting health of our young participants.
In a sector which often provides services at prohibitively high prices, our sessions are either free or charged on a ‘pay-what-you-can’ basis. We never turn a child away due to their financial circumstances. Providing for all children, regardless of background, allows us to improve social cohesion in the London community: we’ve seen first-hand the friendships forged at our sessions, which span socioeconomic, national, and ethnic lines.
Football is a universal language: nothing else brings people together quite like it. Every child deserves the happiness which playing with their friends can bring. Donate now and help us to ensure that football never becomes a luxury reserved for a privileged few.
