For 265 years, the Board has protected and advanced the interests of our community through its 300 democratically elected Deputies representing communities in every part of the UK. On behalf of the community, we engage constantly with government, opposition, civil society other faith communities and the media.

The Board of Deputies of British Jews stands at the heart of our community’s efforts to confront difficult challenges while embracing opportunities to shape a brighter, stronger future for our community and wider society.  

Our priorities reflect the Jewish community’s values and aspirations.  

We will:

  1. Fight antisemitism
  2. Stand up for peace and security in Israel and the Middle East
  3. Defend our religious freedoms
  4. Make our community more united, inclusive and outward-looking
  5. Celebrate our faith, heritage and culture as British Jews

New initiatives that we will be driving forward this year and beyond include:

  • A Commission on Antisemitism, endorsed by the government and opposition and chaired by Lord John Mann and Penny Mordaunt that will advise government and civil society on the key practical changes that need to be made to help confront this evil bigotry.
  • We campaign tirelessly for the release of the hostages as well as to proscribe terror groups and to advance the Abraham Accords.
  • Building and supporting Jewish Networks in the workplace that support Jewish employees in defending their religious rights and confronting antisemitism.
  • To defeat religious extremism - and with strong cross-party political support - we are building the “Optimistic Alliance” of faith leaders from across the UK to promote moderation within religious leadership and to enhance communal cohesion.
  • The British Jewish Culture Month that will celebrate the contribution of British Jewish creativity to the UK. Additionally, we are also launching a Jewish Heritage Plaque scheme that will recognise prominent Jews who have given so much to the community and wider society.  We will be inviting the community to nominate appropriate people.
