Chai Cancer Care

The enormity of Covid-19 on cancer patients and their loved ones is undeniable. A direct consequence of the pandemic has meant that people are being diagnosed later, sadly resulting in the need for more invasive radical surgery and treatment.

It has been widely reported that cancer has become ‘the Forgotten C’ as critical cancer services have been downgraded due to rising virus cases in our hospitals. This has resulted in a backlog of three million people waiting for screenings (according to Cancer Research UK.)

On a daily basis we are seeing the impact and anxiety that this is having on our clients, both physically and emotionally. With the need for social distancing, not being able to see family members and loved ones is an added and significant pressure for so many.

Adapting to the changes and creating a ‘new normal’ for our clients continues to be the focus for all of us at Chai Cancer Care.

We are still providing many of our specialised services through telephone, Skype and Zoom including all counselling services, support groups, the Chai in Schools programme which operates in 23 schools across the UK and the Medical Outpatient Rehabilitation and Palliative Care Service. In fact, the demand for counselling has increased by 37% at this time.

The demand for Chai’s services has always been great but now it is urgently needed more than ever. Chai, together with the entire medical profession is already seeing a surge of clients. We must be ready to support them, with our Big C of Care.

The BIG need for community support

  • Chai supports over 3,600 clients both nationally and internationally.

  • Chai receives no statutory funding, relying on the generosity of the community to meet its annual budget of £3.5 million.

  • Chai’s income has dropped by 40% due to postponed and cancelled fundraising events, celebrations, and challenges.

The Big Campaign

On the 22-23 November please come together as a community to raise £1.5M for Chai Cancer Care.

For 36 hours, our generous sponsors have agreed to match every donation that is made.

Remember that every donation will be doubled, £10 will become £20, £500 will become £1000 and so on!

Your contribution small or large will help Chai to continue caring for all those who turn to them.

Thank you so much for your support.
