Thank you for being part of this important project to install a lift at Cockfosters and N Southgate Synagogue!
By donating to this campaign, you are helping our less mobile members and visitors, and those with very young children to safely and easily reach the first floor of the building. This is where the Maurice Tillkoff Hall (our large events hall) and the Ladies’ Gallery are situated.
At present, access is only by stairs, which many of our members find challenging at best, and completely inaccessible at worst.
A fully accessible weekday and Shabbat lift will serve those with mobility issues and especially people in wheelchairs and young families using buggies. The lift will also make access to the hall for catering events much easier.
Since its opening in 2018, The Hub, our additional programming space on the ground floor, has continued to expand and attract new members. For our weekly ‘Coffee and Company’ events, which are aimed at our older members, we have already outgrown this space and need to move to the upstairs hall.
A lift is now essential to enable easier access to the first floor. Without it, we will continue to exclude increasing numbers of our members and visitors.
At the same time as we install the lift, we would like to repair and redecorate the Maurice Tillkoff Hall. We have not had the available funds to do so for years and our community deserves a more welcoming and uplifting place in which to enjoy the Synagogue’s many activities on offer. This will also assist in promoting the hall to make it available for commercial hire and in turn provide future revenue.
With a new Rabbi and more and more members gradually returning to the synagogue building after lockdowns and closures, it is an ideal time to carry out this project.
