Kollel Ohr Yosef Chaim is a vibrant kollel nestled in the heart of the American neighborhood in Yerushalayim. Located in the shul, Mishkan Yechiel, one of the center points of Maalot Dafna neighborhood in Machal.
Our Goal:
We are committed to fostering a love for Torah and empowering our avreichim to become accomplished talmidei chachamim.
At Kollel Ohr Yosef Chaim, our goal is to create poiskim and leaders of Klall Yisroel.
Derech Halimud:
The curriculum includes chavrusos, sheurim and shimush of talmidei chachamim.
The kollel embraces a multi-faceted approach to halachic learning, drawing upon traditional methods of study while also engaging with and understanding the latest breakthroughs in technology. This approach creates poiskim and talmidei chachamim ready to pasken shailos on contemporay issues.
We focus on learning the sugyas down to the halacha, seeking to uncover its underlying principles, and teach the avrechim the ability to apply halacha to real-world scenarios. As a talmid of Rav Asher Weiss, Rabbi Eli Sherman (the Rosh Kollel) has experience in plumbing the depths of a sugya and come out with the halacha. This is derech that the kollel is giving over.
We strive for excellence in the study of halacha, delving into its intricacies with intellectual rigor and devotion. Our avreichim engage in meticulous textual analysis, exploring the primary sources of Jewish law including the Gemara, Rishonim, Tur, Shulchan Aruch, noisei keilim, and down to the modern day poiskim.
Community:
We aim to cultivate a warm and supportive learning environment where avrechim can come together to engage in limud HaTorah and to get a sense of geshmak from the learning. Through sheurim, lively discussions and communal events, we foster a sense of camaraderie and mutual growth among our members and their families.
Impact:
We aspire to make a meaningful impact on the broader Jewish community by equipping our members with the knowledge and skills to serve as knowledgeable halachic authorities and educators.
Curriculum:
Our kollel offers a comprehensive halacha learning program that includes:
- Chavrusa learning that allows the avrechim to learn from each other and refine their understanding of the material.
- Sheurim from Rabbi Eli Sherman (Rosh Kollel), Rav Nochum Eizenstein (Nasi HaKollel and Rav of the Neighborhood), Rav Asher Weiss and other noted rabbanim and poiskim.
- Halacha outings where the kollel, as a whole, goes to explore some of the modern day applications of the relevant halacha that they are learning
Leadership:
Sheurim from Rabbi Eli Sherman are delivered in his dynamic and charismatic style. Providing guidance and deep clarity to the topics at hand. Rabbi Sherman is a renowned scholar with a deep understanding of halacha and a talent for transmitting his knowledge to others. He works tirelessly to make sure that the avrechim come out of the kollel ready to pasken shailos.
Rabbi Sherman is widely recognized for his expertise in halacha, and receives calls day and night from the avreichim and many members of the community on many topics of halacha and advice. His wide breadth of torah combined with his personable and warm demeanor makes him a true talmid chochom. Always greeting everyone with a warm smile and stops to give you the time of day, Rabbi Sherman makes everyone feel important.
