We have a situation on our hands.  Last month, Telfed welcomed the highest number of South African immigrants to Israel in one month in 44 years (since 1977)!  The annual cost of providing our support services to the SA community in Israel is NIS 9,000,000 so we still need your help. Each donation counts, as our resources are under intense strain, following a surge in the need for our services ensuring that Southern Africans are able to settle in to Israel successfully, become self-sufficient, thrive and strengthen the Jewish Nation. We have a situation on our hands.  Last month, Telfed welcomed the highest number of South African immigrants to Israel in one month in 44 years (since 1977). Our resources are under intense strain, following a significant surge in the need for our services, ensuring that Southern Africans are able to settle in to Israel successfully, become self-sufficient, thrive and strengthen the Jewish Nation.  The annual cost of providing our support services to the SA community in Israel is NIS 9M, so we still need your help.  Every donation counts.

  • 2021: 300% increase in the number of South Africans wanting to move to Israel
  • 10% increase in the number of SA immigrants battling to make ends meet in Israel (391 individuals are dependent on welfare and community food cards to feed their families, at a cost of NIS 2M per year),
  • 50% increase (70 families) on the waiting list for housing in the Telfed community buildings, inter alia

This growth in demand is in addition to the regular extensive support services we provide to 43,000+ Southern Africans in Israel (outlined below).

In order to meet the increased needs, Telfed is urgently reaching out to Southern Africans around the world to support our Rosh Hashanah community campaign, (where each donation on 1st and 2nd Sept will be matched by generous sponsors).  Together, we can ensure that both the veteran and recent influx of Southern African olim in Israel have a secure and stable future, strengthening the Southern African presence in Israel.

Please donate today to our SA self-help fund.

(Donations are tax-deductible in Israel, the US, UK and Australia).  For Canadian tax-deductibility, please click here

Examples of Telfed’s services:

  • Social Welfare assistance (NIS 2M is distributed in financial grants, emergency stipends, rehabilitation programmes and food cards each year to struggling SA families),
  • Employment Advice for both new and veteran Olim (a critical aspect for self-sustenance)
  • Scholarships (over 400 SA youth are Telfed Alumni each year!)
  • Specialised support services for the elderly, ill, bereaved, unemployed, (197) lone soldiers and other vulnerable community members
  • Immigration and Absorption advice (for new arrivals in need of guidance)
  • Lower-cost rental housing (up to 30% below market level),
  • Regional and national events (assisting Olim to build social networks) and
  • Volunteer platforms (to encourage Southern Africans to contribute both to the community and country).
