WIZO was founded in the UK in 1918 and is the largest, independent social welfare organisation in Israel, supporting vulnerable and disadvantaged citizens at every stage of life, regardless of race or religion. We believe that Israel's greatest resource is its people, and we are committed to enabling fulfilled individuals, enabling as many as possible to reach their full potential, and in so doing, strengthening Israeli society.

Over the years WIZO’s services have adapted to the need of the growing community in Israel and our main areas of work are:

  • Day Care Centres - Providing high level early years education and developmental support to children in a loving and professional environment to allow them to enjoy their childhood and flourish.
  • Youth Villages - Often the first safe place teenagers experience, giving them emotional security. These new found homes and families help them develop self-belief and work towards a better future.
  • Shelters - Providing therapeutic, social, legal and educational services free of charge to support and prepare women and their children for an independent life, free from violence and abuse. The shelters also supply food, clothes and toys, as well as job assistance and support to find a new home.

Spring into Action Urgent Campaign

The impact of the Covid-19 crisis on WIZO's work is severe and the effects will be long-lasting. During the past year the number of vulnerable individuals referred to WIZO by social welfare services has risen dramatically and their needs are greater than ever.

More toddlers and babies rely on WIZO Day Care Centres for their one nutritious meal of the day, more vulnerable teenagers are in need of extended support at WIZO Youth Villages, their safe place, and more women and children need shelter, a refuge to escape the steep rise in domestic abuse.

To meet the increased demand for our vital services resulting from the impact of the pandemic, as well as the ongoing needs of those who depend on us, we are reaching out with an urgent campaign.

On 25 & 26 of April we hope to raise £750,000 with the help of our wonderful community to go towards our overall annual commitment to Israel of £1.2m.

We are grateful to our generous donors who have come forward and agreed to match for 36 hours every donation given, big or small. £5 will become £10 and £500 will become £1000.
