They Only Have One Home
35 Years of Manchester Bnei Akiva’s Bayit – And Its Future Depends on Us
For 35 years, one building has stood at the heart of Jewish youth life in Manchester. A place of laughter, learning, song and purpose. A place where friendships were formed and values ignited.
That place is the Bayit – the home of Bnei Akiva Manchester.
In 1991, the Manchester Jewish community celebrated a landmark moment with the opening of Hamburger House at 72 Singleton Road. A large, modern community centre, it was officially opened by Lord Sacks, and quickly became far more than bricks and mortar. It became the hub of Religious Zionism in Manchester – a true Bayit for generations of young people.
Today, that Bayit is still alive and thriving.
Every week, hundreds of chanichim walk through its doors to learn Torah, build lifelong friendships, and develop a deep connection to Am Yisrael and Medinat Yisrael. From snifim and leadership training to shabbatot, learning programmes and chesed initiatives, the Bayit is where Torah, Avodah and Aliyah come together in real life.
But a home like this does not sustain itself.
Unlike many organisations, Bnei Akiva Salford does not run an annual fundraiser. The movement focuses its energy on chinuch, not constant fundraising. As a result, when we do ask, it is because the need is real and the moment is critical.
The last two major fundraisers took place in 2016 and 2021. Now, in 2026, 35 years after the Bayit first opened its doors, we are once again turning to YOU - our community.
On February 22–23, Manchester Bnei Akiva will be running a Matched Funding Campaign with a target of £150,000. These funds are essential to:
- Maintain and improve the Bayit for all its users
- Support our shlichut, madrichim and programming
- Ensure that Bnei Akiva Manchester can continue doing the incredible work it does for years to come
This campaign is not about growth for growth’s sake. It is about continuity and community.
It is about ensuring that the next generation has the same warm, values-driven home that so many alumni remember so fondly. It is about safeguarding a space where Jewish identity is celebrated, Zionism is lived, and young people are empowered to lead.
Bnei Akiva only has one home in Manchester.
And homes need care, investment, and love.
We ask you to help secure its future so that it can continue shaping the future of our children.
For two days only 22/23 February - please give generously.
