The Board of Deputies of British Jews stands at the heart of our community’s efforts to confront difficult challenges while embracing opportunities to shape a brighter, stronger future for our community and wider society.

For 266 years, the Board has protected and advanced the interests of British Jewry through its 320 democratically elected Deputies, representing communities in every part of the UK. We engage constantly with government, the opposition, civil society, other faith communities and the media.

Our priorities reflect the Jewish community’s values and aspirations.

Recent achievements and current activities.

• We had significant and recognised impact on the government’s recently published plans to tackle antisemitism and extremism.
• We launched Jewish Culture Month, celebrating the contribution of British Jewish creativity to the UK, with over 150 events across the country and strong media and public recognition.
• We are building and supporting Jewish workplace networks that help employees defend their religious rights and confront antisemitism.
• We have established the “Optimistic Alliance” of faith leaders from across the UK to promote moderation within religious leadership and enhance communal cohesion.
• We sponsor key communal infrastructure such as: (1) Mila UK, defending circumcision, (2) Pikuach, inspecting Jewish schools (like OFSTED), (3) managing nine orphaned cemeteries where a Jewish community no longer exists and (4) sponsoring the community’s annual Yom Hashoah ceremony.
