The Manchester כולל הרבנים was established over 55 years ago. Among its founders were none other than the Manchester Rosh Yeshiva, Rav Yehuda Zev Segal זצוק"ל , and Rav Yitzchok Yakov Weisz זצ"ל , the מנחת יצחק (later appointed נשיא of the Kollel), who worked tirelessly to promote what was Manchester's first Kollel.
This turned out to be the forerunner of the many Kollelim one will find in Manchester today, along with countless other מוסדות התורה.
For a few years (1966-1970) Rav Zvi Kushelevsky שליט"א led the Kollel. When he left to ארץ ישראל in 1970, Rav Binyomin Zev Kaufman זצ"ל (at the time, a ר"מ in Sunderland yeshiva), was appointed ראש הכולל a position he held for forty seven years.
He was a דמות למופת in his התמדת ויגיעת התורה, giving almost weekly שיעורים מאירים and שיחות נלהבות thereby influencing more than two generations of yungeleit, both directly and indirectly. His impact was felt not only by the אברכי הכולל but indeed by the whole Kehilla- as individuals and ראשי מוסדות sought עצה ותושיה in all matters from his pure דעת תורה.
With his פטירה in כסלו תשע"ז , his son Rav Eliyohu Eliezer Kaufman שליט"א, (who had been the ראש חבורה since תשנ"ג,) was appointed the ראש הכולל.
Since its inception the Kollel has maintained its position as one of the premier מקומות התורה in the area. As well as the 30 members of the kollel, it has continually attracted others, בעלי בתים and בני תורה alike, to come and be part of this vibrant מקום תורה where the התמדה is renowned to be above the norm.
Naturally, the alumni from a choshuve מוסד such as this, took up many distinguished positions of Chinuch and Rabbonus throughout England and beyond. Among the Alumni are Rav Simcha Bamberger שליט"א, who gives what is perhaps the largest Daf Yomi shiur in Europe today, and Rav Osher Westheim זצ"ל. In America Rav Shaga Feivel Schneebalg שליט"א and Rav Menachem Meir Weissmandel שליט"א, both currently of Monsey, spent many years learning as אברכים in the כולל .
Recent times have proven particularly difficult financially, and as such, we reach out to the נדיבי עם די בכל אתר ואתר to be among the תומכים of the Kollel, and be partners in the survival and growth of this vital מוסד התורה .
