Hatzola Herts is a volunteer-led emergency ambulance service based in the Elstree and Borehamwood area (WD6 postcodes) of South West Hertfordshire, UK. Established to provide rapid, professional pre-hospital emergency care, it operates 24/7, 365 days a year, working alongside the NHS and the East of England Ambulance Service. The service is free to patients, funded entirely by community donations, and aims to save lives by responding to medical emergencies with an average response time of 5-7 minutes.
With over 100 volunteers, including highly trained first responders, paramedics, and doctors, Hatzola Herts is equipped with life-saving tools like defibrillators, oxygen, and resuscitation devices. While rooted in the local Jewish community and guided by Jewish values (with oversight from the London Beth Din), it serves everyone in its catchment area, regardless of background.
Hatzola Herts, regulated by the Care Quality Commission, relies on donations to cover its £300,000 annual operating costs. It encourages community support through fundraising campaigns, volunteering, and regular contributions to sustain and expand its life-saving services.
