Run for the Yellow Candle Project at the Maccabi GB Community Fun Run

The Yellow Candle Project, managed by Maccabi GB, is a practical and informal educational tool to remember Jewish Holocaust victims on Yom HaShoah, and broaden participants’ understanding of the Holocaust, in the safe space of their homes.

The project aims to distribute yellow remembrance candles to as many individuals in the community as possible; alongside each Yellow Candle, a card with the name, age, date, and place of death of someone who perished in the Holocaust is enclosed. Participants are invited to share images of their lit candles on social media on the eve of Yom HaShoah, thereby creating a modern-day collective communal memorial.

The Maccabiah Games, also known as the 'Jewish Olympics,' have been a symbol of unity and strength since their inception in 1932. This prestigious international event, held quadrennially in Israel, brings together 10,000 athletes from around the world to celebrate Jewish and Israeli heritage through sports.

Maccabi GB is Britain’s leading Anglo-Jewish Sports, Health and Wellbeing Charity and has flourished for over 80 years and part of a global movement operating in over 70 countries.

Maccabi GB’s vision is for a healthy, active and proud Jewish community integrated within British society.

Our mission is to create inclusive sporting, community and educational experiences that strengthen Jewish identity, enhance wellbeing and inspire engagement in the Jewish community, Israel and beyond by:

  • Creating sporting opportunities that support health and wellbeing and Jewish identity.
  • Facilitating leadership, educational and cohesion-building activities, within the Jewish community and beyond.
  • Strengthening connections across the Jewish community and Israel, by creating community-wide experiences bringing people together.
  • Creating safe spaces where people feel confident and have the tools to address discrimination, criticism, harassment or other emotional or physical harm.
  • Engaging with our affiliates and partners at home and in Israel as part of the international Maccabi movement.
