History for the Curious Podcast - Rabbi Aubrey Hersh

Starting three and a half years ago as a pilot scheme, we have seen our numbers grow to 10,000 weekly downloads across the world and our 135 episodes have reached over one million downloads. We have become known as an accurate source of research and our series on Yishmael vs Yisrael was used in classrooms, on campus and in print. Students and teachers consult us for information and across the Jewish spectrum we have become a favourite for people wanting to know more about their Heritage and their Past.

History for the Curious is looking to double our subscribers over the next 12 months and bring out shorts as well as our standard weekly history series.

If you have enjoyed the podcasts, please help us continue the journey. Your support makes a real difference.

Bayit Shel Danielle JLE

Danielle Sonnenfeld, born on February 2, 1995, in Rio de Janeiro, tragically passed in a car accident in Israel while driving home after another day fully dedicated to the care of children at the Shneider Medical Oncology centre. It was just a few days after her 20th birthday. Her compassion, great talents, academic excellence and incredible humility inspired The Danielle Sonenfeld Foundation, which honours her legacy globally.

The Jle International division, renamed “Habait shel Danielle (The House of Danielle) in her honour focuses on foreign students in London. It has gained significant success, attracting hundreds of young professionals to various events, learning programmes, and Shabbat experiences.

The Foundation is proud to support the important work the JLE is undertaking and hope to inspire you to join us in donating to this incredible cause.

Senior Lecturers

The JLE is extremely fortunate to have Rabbi Akiva Tatz & Rabbi Aubrey Hersh - two world class lecturers - teaching for them every week.

Since 1996, both of them have been the backbone of our education, and over the last 30 years they have taught thousands of individuals - including yourself. Their range of expertise includes Jewish Thought, History, Medical Ethics, Halacha & Current Events.

Please show your appreciation for their amazing work and help JLE in their mission of bringing Judaism to Jews across the spectrum.

Thank you.

For over 40 years, the JLE has been at the heart of Jewish lives providing a place to inspire, Educate and belong. From its modest beginnings, the JLE has become an institution in the heart of Jewish London with its outreach spreading across the UK touching countless lives on campus, in schools and for young professionals. Through its provision of inspiring Jewish education, social initiatives, and events, alongside Shabbat and Festival experiences, the JLE has empowered young Jews to embrace their heritage with a sense of pride educating young Jews through relevant and meaningful Jewish programmes in today’s world.

However, we face new challenges as the rise of global anti-Semitism grows more alarming. In the past 12 months the disturbing resurgence of anti-Semitism threatens our traditions, values, making young Jews fearful of their future. Now, more than ever, the work of the JLE is critical in strengthening Jewish identity, resilience, and unity in the face of adversity.

The JLE has stood as a pillar of strength for young Jews, providing them a place to belong, grow and to connect. The past year alone has seen demand for our programmes sky rocket from 3500 individuals in 2023 to over 5000 in 2024 with over 1,000 connecting with us each week. For almost 80% of our attendees, the JLE is their only source of Jewish connection

Over the next 36 hours, we turn to you—our friends and supporters—to help us ‘step up’ and rise to the challenge of tomorrow. With your partnership we will secure a future where young Jews can continue to grow, learn and thrive.

Together we will make a lasting difference.
