Ohr Natan was established 35 years ago to help our community grow and thrive. Areas that needed improvement were identified and programs were quickly set up to address those needs.

  • Daily, Shabbat & Holiday Minyanim were set up.
  • Druzhba Magazine was established and was the first Jewish publication in the Russian language distributed free of charge.
  • Shalom Magazine followed shortly after to appeal to young readers who could not read Russian.
  • Needy families and the elderly were able to enjoy Ohr Natan’s food pantry.
  • Programs were set up geared towards public school kids who were not receiving even a basic knowledge of Judaism.
  • Shiurim/lectures in English & in Russian were organized, featuring top rabbis and speakers, and attracting many young adults.
  • Ohr Natan began a Weekly Chavruta Night (which eventually spread to other Shuls).
  • A weekly program for teen girls was organized featuring speakers and role models from our community.
  • Oneg Shabbats were set up during the winter months every Friday night, allowing people from the community to come together, socialize, and enjoy divrey Torah from different rabbis in our community.
  • Hebrew Classes were established for every level, and so far, hundreds of people from our community graduated these courses and are proud Hebrew readers and speakers.
  • Ohr Natan boasts a thriving Youth Minyan which BH hasdedicated and growing membership.
  • The Summer Kollel, a new initiative in Queens, was founded by Ohr Natanand has proudly grown to include 50 bochurim learning b’chavruta a full day, every weekday during the summer.
  • Ohr Natan purchased the Briarwood Jewish Center to establish the Ohr Natan Briarwood Synagogue, which currently serves more than 150 families.
  • A beautiful state-of-the-art Mikvah was built in Briarwood, an area where there was no mikvah for generations.
  • ESL classes were organized and offered to the community to help adults acquire the necessary language skills needed to adjust to life in the US.
  • A Judaic library in Russian and English was established with hundreds of books available to borrow free of charge.

These are just highlights of the activities that Ohr Natan has proudly established and ran for over 35 years to benefit the community!

FORCED TO MOVE
To the sorrow of the Queens community, Ohr Natan is forced to leave its premises where it’s been standing for more than 20 years.
A developer bought the building from the former landlord and has plans for a money-making project.
Our beautiful Shul will be destroyed and we are now forced to move to another location.
BE A PART OF IT
Please help us cover the costs of moving and rebuilding our synagogue and continuing to spread Torah through our programs, classes and shiurim.
Every dollar that you donate will make you a partner in touching someone’s life, inspiring another Jew, spreading Torah and being a part of ensuring the continuation of the Jewish people here in America, where, unfortunately, assimilation and intermarriage rates soar higher each year.

Please open your hearts and donate whatever you can!!
