For many people, crisis is not far away. It is just one life event away.

This is the reality for Paperweight’s clients.

Our clients often come to us carrying not just one issue, but many. Financial worries, legal problems, housing challenges, bereavement, immigration concerns, isolation, family breakdown.   

For those facing some of the hardest moments of their lives – the effects of neglect, poverty, isolation and social injustice, Paperweight provides free, confidential and practical support,offering time, expertise, compassion and common sense when it feels as though the rest of the world has said “no”.   

With an average of 15 - 20 new client calls every day, demand for our services remains constant and urgent. 

And because a free service is never free to run, your support enables us to be there for those who are frightened, vulnerable, isolated or falling through the cracks.

Your funding helps us provide vital services, including:

  • Money advice clinics (FCA accredited) - helping people escape poverty and rebuild financial stability,
  • Family law clinics - Protecting vulnerable families and supporting through divorce and family breakdown
  • Civil / Personal Law - Legal handholding in areas of non-criminal legal issues that affect personal lives e.g. employment, landlord & tenant and housing issues.  Empowering people to access justice and importantly, to understand their options
  • Elder care — Ensuring dignity and respect in later life
  • Post-bereavement practical support — when life has been turned upside down
  • Welfare rights - being a lifeline through complex systems
  • Mental health – personalised practical help for stable, independent living.
  • Paperlite monthly visits — helping clients remain stable and supported
  • Advocacy – Giving a voice to those who cannot speak for themselves.
  • Bureaucracy & General Administration (including our Paperlite service), responding to official letters and guiding clients through the complex and stressful bureaucracy of modern life.   

Your support also sustains the infrastructure that makes this work possible. Our offices provide:

  • a safe, neutral and welcoming place for caseworkers to meet with clients 
  • a well-resourced professional base for our Helpline Assessors Team, who are often the first responders 
  • support for our Allocations Team, Benefits Team, Law Team and Money Team 
  • space for inductions, training and professional development 
  • a setting for internal and external multi-disciplinary meetings 
  • the systems, expertise and accreditations needed to deliver a high-quality service 

When life becomes unmanageable, our team helps to untangle the chaos and find solutions. We do not just listen - we act - Restoring independence, confidence and hope.
