Recover 2024

Since 2018, Recover has been providing fresh kosher food, on-demand and free of charge, to patients across all North East hospitals and care settings.
This is our first ever run, with around 25 runners taking part on Sunday 14th July, please help us to help those who need our services!

Anyone who has been in hospital will be familiar with the experience of having to choose from a very limited and often unappealing Kosher menu.

When someone is unwell, eating well helps then in a very real way to gain strength crucial required for the Recovery process. Eating well isn’t just a nice extra, it is an imperative.
Until Recover started, people who wanted to eat well in hospital had to call upon friends/family who are often already very stretched due the care that the patient needs. Some patients prefer to try to eat some of the food served by the hospital rather than to request yet more help from family/friends.
When a person is unwell, their appetite can be “hit and miss”. When they do have an appetite, they need the food that they have an appetite to eat at the time that they have an appetite.
When someone is in hospital, the only food available on site is the pre set menu of ready meals. They are served at two fixed times in the day, the menu is very limited, and the double seals are often broken.

Recover is volunteer-led, and admin overheads are extremely low. This means that almost all of your donation will be spent on food or other similar services provided to patients.

Recover also provides some ancillary services including:

Provision of subsidized or free domestic cleaning services where a primary caregiver is either incapacitated or is unable to carry out domestic duties due to them being with a patient. A relaxed patient will Recover quicker!
Provision of Kosher entertainment and communication devices (funded by National Lottery Grant)
