Side by Side is a well-known school for children aged 2-19 with special needs, and throughout the years, we have proven to be a lifeline for disabled children and their families.
Its founder Mrs. Ricky Rumpler started the nursery in her dining room back in 1995 as there was no suitable setting willing to accept her son who has Down Syndrome.
The little group quickly outgrew their “premises” and thus, Side by Side officially became the first - and only! - Orthodox Jewish school for children with special needs in Stamford Hill.
With high staff ratios, specialist teachers as well as qualified therapists, SBS quickly earned a reputation for providing top-quality care and education for those with special needs, and children managed to achieve more than anyone ever dreamed they were capable of.
After years of moving around from one temporary location to another, several years ago, with the generous support of the local community, SBS was able to purchase the side on Lordship Road to finally build a purpose-built school for their special children.
Side by Side needs to raise a final £2M to get to the finish line; the day we’ve all been waiting for.
We can practically see the children's happy faces as they spend time in the new, spacious premises as opposed to overcrowded, stuffy portacabins.
We can almost feel the relief of parents whose children will finally be accepted into Side by Side after being on the waiting list for months, due to space constraints.
We are so close to sharing the joy and serenity of the dedicated staff who will have all the tools and equipment they need to help each child reach their full potential.
We’re so close, yet so far.
You’ve been with us on this journey until now.
We know you won’t let us - and the almost 100 children - down.
Thank you for your support.
